Professor Gary Y. Okihiro holds a Ph.D. in History from UCLA and is Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia.  He is also the founding director for Columbia's Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race.  He is a distinguished historian and ethnic studies scholar having written nine books and numerous articles on U.S. and African history. Professor Okihiro has produced seminal texts on race and Asian American history including Common Ground: Reimagining American History and Margins and Mainstreams: Asians in American History and Culture, frequently used in undergraduate and graduate courses across the U.S. 

This event is co-sponsored by the Department of African American Studies, Department of History, Program in Asian American Studies, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, The Graduate School, Chabraja Center for Historical Studies, and Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities.
